Erie dominates Uniontown girls in second half
UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Erie's girls outscored Uniontown 37-11 in the second half of a non-league game here Friday night and Eagle head coach Ken Holt didn't hide how he felt about it.
"I thought we have good effort for 2 1/2 quarters," he said. "Then we quit."
Without more input from the coach, who was brief and to the point in his fax, it's hard to pinpoint exactly when Erie began to pull away. But the Eagles (2-4) trailed 14-4 after one period and then played even in the second quarter to stay within 24-14.
The visiting Red Devils outscored Uniontown 19-2 in the fourth quarter.
Jayme Shank led the Eagles with 10 points while Katie Spainhoward added nine. Only three other players scored for Uniontown, none of them more than two points.
Uniontown's statistics showed an 11-of-46 night from the field and 42 turnovers.
Erie also won the junior varsity contest, 39-29. Breanna Esslinger scored 10 points to lead the Eagles.
Uniontown plays a Three Rivers League contest at Oswego Tuesday night.
