Absentee voters cast ballots for primary

Today was the final day for the Vernon County Clerk's Office to mail out absentee ballots for the Feb. 5 presidential primary election.
Staff at the Clerk's office reported 229 absentee voters had requested ballots as of yesterday afternoon. Though the mailing deadline has passed, voters unable to appear at the polls next Tuesday can continue to vote absentee up to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4. Absentee ballots are available upon request at the County Clerks office in the Vernon County Court House.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5 many of the 11,542 active voters in Vernon County will hit the polls to vote for which presidential candidate they want to run for president on Nov. 4 during the general election.
Manning the 16 countywide polling stations will be 64 judges; two Democrats and two Republicans per station. One Democrat and One Republican at each station will be assigned the position of supervisory judge. These election workers have many responsibilities including; checking in each voter, confirming voter's identity, answering voter's questions, and assisting in many other ways throughout the election. On top of the judges for election day, 4 judges will be brought in to assist with absentee votes and 2 more on election night to aid clerks office employees with vote counts and other projects. These judges will also be evenly split by party affiliation.
Voting begins at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and the polls close at 7 p.m. For more information call the Vernon County Clerks office at (417) 448-2500. Polling station locations are also printed on each voter registration card.
