Hume girls third in tourney
HUME, Mo. -- The Golden Valley-Vernon County Tournament continued Thursday and Friday nights with the Montrose Lady Jays beating the Ballard Lady Bulldogs 53-31 in the Thursday's opening game followed by the Montrose boys defeating the Ballard boys 54-22.
In the girls game Morgan Eye set the pace for Montrose with 23 points, followed by Shelby Bennett with 12 points.
Aimee Hill led Ballard with 12 points followed by McKenzie Oswald with eight points.
In the boys game Tony Engman led the Blue Jays with 20 points followed by Luke Gerster with nine points.
Mitchell Jones and Dalton McElwain led the Bulldogs with six points each followed by Sean Carroll with four points.
In the late games Thursday, the Bronaugh girls outdistanced the Hume Lady Hornets 41-30 and in the late game the Hume boys easily beat the Bronaugh Wildcats 69-39.
Sky Klinksick led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points, including two treys, followed by Katy Douglas with nine points, Carly Schultz with eight points, Vanessa Langford and Ashley Cox with four points each and Kelsey Schultz with one point.
The Lady Hornets scoring was led by Leanna Brooks with 11 points, followed by Sara Farrar with eight points, Katie Orear with seven points and Jessie Bogan and Janee Fillpot with two points each.
In the boys' game Clinton Irwin led the Hornets with 25 points, going nine of 10 at the charity stripe, closely followed by Cameron Hinton with 23 points including two treys, Cody Franklin with seven points, Andy Yarick with six points, Ryan Austin with five points and Zach Austin with three points.
Bronaugh's scoring was led by Nick Judd with 27 points, including three treys and going 5-4 free throws, followed by Scott Farmer and Cameron Bott with five points and Dakota Christenberry with two points.
Friday night action saw the Hume girls capture third place in the tournament by beating the Ballard girls 54-43.
Katie Orear led the Lady Hornets with 35 points, followed by Leanna Brooks and Sara Farran with six points each, Jessie Bogan with three points and Janee Fillpot and Tashina Crane.
The Lady Jays saw Brittany Schrieber set the pace with 21 points, followed by Aimee Hall with six points, Chantel Rowland with five points and Wainscott with three points.
Earlier action Friday night saw the Sheldon boys beat the Northeast Vernon County boys 38-26 and the Sheldon girls beat the Northeast Vernon County girls 41-36 for fifth place.
In the boys fifth-place game Clint Gerkin led the Panthers with 14 points followed by Dakota Black with six points, Sam Jones and Cody Gardner with four points each, David Moore and Thomas Urena with two points each and Jeramiah Lamb with one point.
Cody Scott led the NEVC Knights with seven points, followed by Cody Terry and Isaac Wilkins with six points each, Damien Hansen with four points and Charlie Stewart with three points.
In the girls' fifth-place game Hailey Connor led the Lady Panther with 21 points, including one trey and going 11-17 at the charity stripe, followed by Brianna Bolan with eight points, Chasity Ashworth with six points, Brittany Danner with two points and Mercedes Hoffa with one point.
The Lady Knights scoring was led by Darci Baer with nine points, followed by Darcy Scotten and Shannon Gray with eight points each, Ashley Harms with five points, Kelci Davis with four points and Sunny Baily with two points.
Tournament action concluded on Saturday with Ballard boys playing Bronaugh for third place at 5:30, followed by the girls' championship game with Montrose playing Bronaugh and the boys' championship game at 8:30 with Hume playing Montrose.
