Richard Earl Saathoff
Richard Earl Saathoff, 85, of Walker, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at his home in Walker, following a sudden illness. He was born March 25, 1922, in Ketterman, Mo., to Richard Saathoff and Susie Shuhart Saathoff. He was married to Joanne Thomas, in Fort Scott, Kan., on Nov. 8, 1945, and they were the parents of two children, Shelia and Steve. He later married Verneta Sue Peck, in 1974, in Miami, Okla.
Richard and his family lived in the Walker area for many years. They moved to Nevada in the 1940s and Richard graduated from Nevada High School. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He worked for Missouri Public Service for almost 15 years and later owned and operated his own heating and air conditioning business. Richard moved to Florida in 1975 and returned to this area in approximately 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Shelia Saathoff, of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Steve Saathoff, of Nevada; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Fletchall, of Nevada, Betty Emery, of Deerfield, and Pauline Hogsett, of Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of good friends in both Florida and Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roy, who was killed in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
