Robert S. "Huck" Rogers
Robert S. "Huck" Rogers, 87, of Columbus,, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Medicalodge, of Columbus. Huck was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Nevada, the son of Robert F. and Maggie (Dahmer) Rogers. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart for injuries incurred in "The Battle of the Bulge." After the war he worked for the P & M Coal Company, retiring after 32 years. He married Thelma J. Latcham of Rich Hill, Mo., on Oct. 22, 1944. Huck was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W, and the Bass Club. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years; two brothers Lloyd and William; and two sisters, Ruth Simon and Sue Ray. He is survived by two sons Robert T. Rogers, of Columbus, and William Eugene and wife Sonjia Rogers, of Edgerton, Mo.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The graveside funeral service was 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Greenlawn Cemetery, in Rich Hill, under the direction of Murdock Funeral Home. Visitation were from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, March 15, at the Murdock Funeral Home, 132 E. Pine, Columbus, KS, 66725. Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice with the funeral home serving as custodian.
