Schell City recovers quickly from storm

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Cleanup from the recent storm damage in Schell City is already nearing completion.

Early Monday afternoon a violent storm wreaked havoc on the town, uprooting trees, tearing down power lines and pelting the town with hail. According to city officials, two homes still remain without power, but all other electrical outages have been restored. The city has designated a dump site for all storm debris, and most of the downed branches and debris have been cleaned up with the aid of numerous people and a combined cleanup effort on the part of everyone involved. It is not yet known whether or not federal disaster relief will be provided due to the slow movement of that process and the fact that most of the people involved were covered by private insurance. Some relief may be given to those without insurance.

No injuries were reported from these storms.
