Roy Elsworth Umphenour
Roy Elsworth Umphenour, 99, of Fort Scott, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1908 at Pleasanton, Kan., the son of Harry Jacob and Adah Staton Umphenour. He married Lottie Berneice Kleitz on June 28, 1934. She preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 1994.
Roy was a farmer, stockman and cattle trader. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. Roy enjoyed wolf hunting and going to the Senior Citizen dances at Fort Scott, Pittsburg and Nevada.
He was preceded in death also by his parents; two brothers, William and Walter Umphenour and seven sisters, Inez Hinderliter, Mary Gilmore, Bertha Rohrer, Kitty Leonard, Lulie Umphenour, Jane Leonard and Arizona Ralph.
Survivors include two sons; Karl Umphenour and Sharon of Fort Scott, Kansas and Harry David Umphenour and Elizabeth of Ridgecrest, California; one daughter, Shirley Kay Vaughn and Edward E. of Camdenton, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and his special friend and dance partner, Wilma Sullivan.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Pryor Creek Cemetery. Interment will be in Pryor Creek Cemetery, Metz, Mo.
