Missouri rolls out its new vehicle license plate design

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Drivers will start seeing new Missouri license plates beginning Monday, June 16. The redesigned plates are the "Bluebird" design that won the vote on the departments Web site from a field of three; the "Ribbon," "Reflection" and "Bluebird" designs.

Director of Revenue Omar Davis said he was pleased by the design which was chosen by the people themselves.

"The department is pleased that the day is almost here when we will begin issuing the newly-designed license plate selected by Missourians," Davis said. "This new design is one that Missourians can be proud of and one in which a collaborative effort was made to assist law enforcement in better identifying vehicles on Missouri roadways."

The new license plates will be available from all contract license offices across the state.

Missourians who register or renew a registration after June 16 will receive the newly-designed plate.

Personalized and specialty plates using the new design will be available as of Jan. 1, 2009.

The plates will be available in Nevada on Monday at the license office on South Main.

The change was mandated by a state law that required a new design by Jan. 1, 2009. With the release Monday the department is well ahead of the deadline.
