Parks, airport boards announce separate upcoming meetings
During special meetings slated for July 22, the city of Nevada's Parks and Recreation Board plans to take steps forward in the process of constructing a shelter house at Marmaduke Park.
At 5:15, the board plans to conduct a site visit to the park, located at 600 W. Highland to view the proposed location of an enclosed shelter house.
At 6 p.m., the board plans to reconvene at the City/County Community Center, 200 N. Ash, Nevada, to discuss the site visit and to review and score responses to a Request For Qualifications seeking a contractor to design and build the shelter house. The project has a proposed budget of $150,000, according to city documents.
The board wants the project to begin not later than September, and asked that responses include the following tasks:
* Meet with city of Nevada Parks Board to determine needs.
* Review available concept plans and develop cost estimate.
* Develop plans conforming to State Architectural Board standards.
* Obtain approval of design plans by Nevada Building and Fire code officials.
* Coordinate utility services to building site.
* Complete construction of project, including final inspection and closeout within designated time frame.
The city's RFQ states "Traditionally, the city of Nevada's construction projects have always used the "design- bid-build" process. This process involves choosing an architect by Request for Qualifications, then contracting with the Architect for "design." After design, the project is "bid" and the lowest and responsible bidder is contracted to "build" the project.
"With the "design-build" process the city contracts with a single entity known as the design-builder, usually a general contractor, which is responsible for retaining the design professionals directly."
In unrelated city business, the city's airport board plans to meet at noon today, at the Nevada Municipal Airport. A runway update and preparation of a "punch list" relating to the new terminal are on the agenda.
