Workshops on time management, other business skills coming soon

Crowder College is teaming up with business professionals to offer local small business owners, office managers and staff members a variety of training opportunities to improve their skills. Professional development instructors include Ken Parrett and Steve Halter.

Parrett is a former CEO of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and current president of Kapstone Management Services Inc. Halter is the president of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and recently retired as store manager at the Poplar Bluff Wal-Mart.

Offerings include a three-week, nine-hour, course Halter will instruct on preparing, developing, and delivering presentations. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of creating a presentation and will write and deliver three short presentations in class. The series will meet Thursdays, Sept. 4, 11, and 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Nevada Telecenter.

Another class by Halter is time management training, a two-week, four hour course. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of time management. They will learn how to evaluate the use of time, identify goals and set priorities, develop an overall time management plan and correctly identify and control poor time management personality types.

The course also covers managing time to increase productivity, developing a daily plan, managing technology and saying 'no' to doing too much. The series will meet two Thursdays, Aug. 21 and 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Nevada Telecenter.

Parrett will offer an eight course series helping professionals improve their skills in: Motivation, organizational behavior, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, change management, business etiquette, coaching and strategic decision making. Each course is a two-day event beginning Aug. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to noon each Monday at the Nevada Telecenter.
