Fort Scott girls come up big at Big Hill Lake

CHERRYVALE, Kan. -- Fort Scott and Pleasanton's cross-country teams took part in the Parsons meet at Big Hill Lake near here Thursday evening.
Fort Scott's junior varsity girls' team swept honors as the Tigers won the team title and Morgan Tourtillott won the individual crown. Tourtillott finished in 15 minutes, 22 seconds while Fort Scott scored 20 points to beat Chanute by 15 points.
The times reported on the sheets provided by Parsons to the coaches were incorrect. Fort Scott head coach Tracey Bogina provided corrected times but the right times were not available for Pleasanton's athletes.
Jenna Harper placed seventh for the Tigers in 16:23 while Leah Casselman was ninth in 16:26. Katelyn Torres was 14th in 16:58 and Autumn Owenby was 28th in 20:02.
Pleasanton didn't enter anyone in the girls' JV race but had three in the boys' JV race. Blu-Jay results had Rance Schoenhals in 43rd place, Cole Nickell 59th and Kyle Walker 77h.
Fort Scott JV boys' results had Keenan Gregory in 18th place in 13:34, Julian Wichert in 19th in 13:39 and Colton Ballou 23rd in 13:59.
Pleasanton's Rachel Richmond was the area's highest place in the girls' varsity race, finishing in 16th. Fort Scott's Kim Stone was 27th in 17:19 while Pleasanton's Cheyanne Reynolds was 31st. Julie Stafford of Independence won the race in 13:31.
In boys' varsity competition, Charlie Sercer was the only Fort Scott entry, finishing 39th in 21:20. Kelly Wadel was 46th for Pleasanton while teammate Dennis Moore was 55th. Dylan Sicka of Yates Center was the winner in 18:26.
The girls' varsity race and both JV events were run over 3,200 meters while the boys' varsity race was 5,000 meters.
Fort Scott's teams go to Iola for the Doc Stiles Invitational Thursday. That same day, Pleasanton's runners will go to Prairie View.
