TeleCenter to host forum on ways to save energy
The typical American household is now spending more than $2,000 or more a year on home utility bills. Often a large portion of that energy is wasted due to excessive infiltration, inadequate insulation, and poor lifestyle choices. Nearly all the coal, petroleum, and natural gas currently used in Missouri are imported from out of state. The good news is there are many strategies that can be implemented inside and outside a home to improve household energy efficiency, according to the University of Missouri Extension.
That's why the extension is offering a class at the Nevada TeleCenter, 2015 N. West St., Nevada, 6:30-8 p.m., Oct. 15, titled, "Be at Home with Energy," and offers strategies for saving energy -- and dollars -- in the household.
This program, taught by Marsh Alexander, University of Missouri Extension Housing and Environmental Design Specialist, will allow participants to take a closer look at their houses to find cost effective ways to save natural resources and energy dollars. Special emphasis will be placed on lighting.
The cost of the program is $15. To preregister or for more information, call (417) 448-2016.
