Weather leads to accidents

Wednesday's slick roadways led to more traffic crashes on state highways, according to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sara L. Burton, 28, of Rich Hill, suffered minor injuries in a crash that took place at about 7:30 a.m., on Route H, two miles north of Deerfield. According to the report, she lost control of the 2002 Ford truck she was driving on the ice-covered roadway and ran off the right side of the road, where the vehicle struck an embankment and overturned. Burton, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center.

An unrelated crash on Route C, 5 miles north of Walker, left 75-year-old Elsie C. Nelson, Walter, with minor injuries. when a 2003 Dodge Caravan, driven by 79-year-old Curtis C. Nelson, ran off the ice-covered roadway and struck the ditch embankment. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Curtis Nelson was uninjured, and Elsie Nelso was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.
