Post office poised to alter its delivery schedule
To our valued readers:
I'm sure many of you have read the news regarding the Post Master General's recent request to a Senate subcommittee to amend the rules established in 1983 that required the US Post Office to deliver mail six days a week.
Due to declining revenues and great losses the US Post Office is proposing that it stop delivering mail on Tuesdays or Saturdays. Needless to say, we are quite concerned about this proposal. We currently publish on both of these days.
On March 1, 2008, we began having our newspaper delivered to you via postal carriers. And, I must say we've been pleased with the service. After we maneuvered through a few initial bumps, the service has been good and reliable and the postal carriers have been great with which to work. Post Office management has treated us, and we hope you, as valued customers.
Please rest assured that we are investigating this issue and hope to learn more about the proposal and the likelihood of the drop in delivery days. If changes take place, we will work to meet your needs as readers, the needs of our advertisers and our needs as a business. Together, we'll continue our great relationship. Please let us know your thoughts by dropping us a line . . . and do the Post Office a favor, send your note the old-fashioned way.
