Marmaduke Park community building opens

A new community building in Marmaduke Park awaits use by Nevada area residents and their families and friends. A paved parking area ensures accessibility, even during rainy weather.

Above, Nevada Mayor Mike Hutchens talks with parks board member Shirley Ann Bastow in the kitchen area of the city of Nevada's new community building at Marmaduke Park, during an open house at the facility on Wednesday. Another view of the kitchen area is shown at right. The building, which has a capacity of 69 people, also has restrooms and tables and chairs, and is climate-controlled. Nevada Parks and Recreation Director Robin McHugh said that the building has already has been booked for 10 events, through the month of June. How much was it again? $150,000.00???

I think a single wide trailer would look better than That! I recently saw a youtube video and a woman spent only $50,000 to build a straw built home that looked luxurious compared to this. No wonder the city seems to be avoiding publishing close up photos of the plan for the community center in the newspaper for the majority of the general public to see, What is it going to look like? a double wide???

I don't like the building, but I do think dandrew is being a little strong. It looks like a very nice, very small, community building. It was supposed to be an enclosed shelter house. It is no where close to what I would like to have seen built but it is a nice building.

Question for EVERYBODY; Would you have SPENT this MUCH of YOUR MONEY for a building like this? I know I wouldn't have. I think the council should EXPLAIN how this thing COST that MUCH!!

i think its a very nice building. right there at the park a/c restrooms kitchen. very nice. i happen to be one of the people that have already rented it in june. so we will see how good it really is. u all are too negative about everything good grief. we dont have ANY nice community buildings that we can use around here. oh sure the community center. but that is right there on the main road. this is nice it is away from all the traffic and has a place for kids to go play on too.

For $150,000.00 I would expect it to look alot nicer and bigger. Most single wide trailers I've seen look better than this. The $50.000 straw built home I mentioned looks way better than this, something like it an alternative energy saving building would have been more interesting and would have sent out a better message to try. This community building looks like a small restroom stop area off a highway.

My cousin and I drove out to see this a few days ago. He has been a home builder for 30 years. I asked if it was worth $150,000 and he said, "Yes, if it has a finished basement."

Does it have a finished basement? I thought I read that they wanted to build one in case of tornado warnings. If it does this story should have mentioned it.

It holds 69 people. What doublewide trailer can hold 69 people?? It's nice they built something that can accomidate family gatherings. Good grief, find something else to complain about. Apperantly you haven't priced building materials lately for those of you complaining about the price. Looks pretty nice to me and I'm sure the bathrooms are a whole lot better than what was out there before.

I've seen alot bigger and better houses built for $150,000.00 for one thing.

I'm sure that this building is going to mentioned a whole lot more with the community center issue being current.

I happen to drive by it again today to take a better look and it looks like a $25,000.00 metal storage shed with a stupid green circle on it to make it more "interesting" I guess.
