FSCC sends two to college national finals rodeo

The Fort Scott Community College Rodeo team will send two members to the College National Finals Rodeo next month.

James Bond and Carrson Hiatt will represent FSCC at the CNFR June 14-20 in Casper, Wyo. The top three participants in each of the 10 events in the Central Plains Region qualified for a trip to Casper.

Bond, a freshman from Neosho, Mo., finished second in the Central Plains Region in the bareback riding category. Bond placed first in the average at Fort Scott, Northwestern University, Kansas State University, and Rogers State. He also placed in the top three at Pratt, Panhandle and NEO.

Also qualifying for his first CNFR is Hiatt, who is also a freshman at FSCC who finished the year third in the bull riding category. He finished second at Pratt and Fort Scott, third at Panhandle, and seventh at Rogers State.

Nearly qualifying on the women's team was third year student Kendyl Hutton of Sedan, Kan. Hutton finished fourth in the breakaway roping category by a mere 10 points. She finished second at Rogers State, third at Northwestern, fourth at K-State, and ninth at Garden City.

Other outstanding athletes who finished in the top 10 in the saddle bronc riding category were Chad Braden of Welch, Okla., who finished fifth, Jake McKellips of Louisburg, Kan., who finished seventh, Tyler West of Arkansas who finished ninth, and Ramey Jernigen of McCalester, Okla., who finished 10th. These individual accomplishments helped the FSCC men's team to finish third in their region this year.
