Genevieve "Irene" Coons, 88, Holden, Mo., formerly of Nevada, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Bristol Manor in Holden.

She was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Swartz, Mo., to George B. Craig and Ada Belle Dory Craig.

Genevieve, as a child, lived in a variety of locales with her family, predominately in the Midwest. During the time spent in Nevada, she baked pies for others. She liked to cook for her family and friends and it was how she showed her love for them. Genevieve attended the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Flanagan, Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Rodger Burris and his wife Dee, Independence, Mo., Charles Burris and his wife Nancy, Randolph Center, Vt.; five grandsons and four great-grandsons; one sister, Betty Beeman, Nevada, Mo.; four brothers, Bill Craig, Stover, Mo., Dory Craig, Spring Hill, Kan., Richard Craig, Joliet. Ill., and Larry Craig, Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, Vernon Coons, and two brothers, Rodger Craig and George Craig.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug, 14, at Newton Burial Park with Chaplin Chris Launer officiating.

Friends may call now and until 3 p.m., Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
