Tornado shelter room built into latest Habitat for Humanity home

Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Twister Safe owner Jeremy Davis (left) and John Smith pause briefly after positioning the tornado safety room in the carport of the newest Habitat for Humanity house being built at 915 N. Oak in Nevada. Constructed of two inch, 16 gauge tubing and 3/16-inch steel plate, the structure is bolted to the cement floor using 5/8-inch-by-four-inch concrete anchor bolts and an epoxy resin. A similar model withstood the F-4 tornado in Picher, Okla. "It was the only thing left of the house," said Davis. --Rusty Murry/Daily Mail
