Lady Tiger tennis shuts out Fort Scott
The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team added yet another strong performance to their record in dual competition as they hosted Fort Scott High School Tuesday.
Fort Scott struggled right from the start of the match and never really recovered as the Lady Tigers dominated throughout the day. After seeing the Lady Tigers cruise through most of the contest, Fort Scott was unable to pick up a win in any of the nine varsity matches, falling by a final score of 9-0.
Daven Smith and Leah Creasy each made quick work of their opponents to start off the day for the Lady Tigers, dispatching Kailia Cancy and Michelle Burtain by 8-1 scores. Katlyn Short showed similar dominance in the No. 3 singles match, taking down Taylor Bailey by a final score of 8-0.
The No. 4 singles match was much the same as the third, the Lady Tigers were still able to come out on top fairly easily when Ashley McKinley shut out Heather Hobbs, 8-0.
Katie Brauer and Ashley Magsam kept the momentum going for the Lady Tigers as they recorded the fifth and sixth victories of the day for Nevada, making quick work of Hannah Messer and Sammi Carr by the final scores of 8-1 and 8-2, respectively.
Fort Scott fared slightly better in doubles competition as just one of their three pairs was shut out, but the Lady Tigers still took full advantage of the momentum they established in singles competition, winning all three matches, 8-0, 8-4 and 8-2.
The Lady Tigers showed very strong performances in all three JV matches that were played on the day as well, as Ashley Magsam and Regan Kimbrough beat Corina Harrison and Bailee Hall 6-3 and 6-0, respectively. Lauren Phillips and Brandi Perrin completed the sweep, winning the day's only JV doubles match by a score of 6-1.
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to be in action again on Thursday as they were set to continue their homestand, hosting Carl Junction, but that match was postponed due to rain.
