Higgins -- 50 years
Melvin and Joan (Cameron) Higgins, of rural route 1, Richards, Mo., observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday. The couple were married Dec. 11, 1959, in Girard, Kan., and have resided in Vernon County since 1959 and at their current address since 1963.
Melvin retired after 30 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation and now enjoys spending time outdoors. Joan worked for Peerless Products for several years and enjoys reading and visiting with friends. Both enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and nine great-granchildren.
The Higgins have one son, Ed Higgins and wife Joy, of Nevada.
A reception honoring the couple will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Dec. 20, 2009, at the Richards Community Center. Omission of gifts is requested; only the presence of friends and family is desired.
