Darrell Lee Riggs
Darrell Lee Riggs, 68, Liberal, Mo., passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Freeman hospital in Joplin, Mo.
Darrel was born April 27, 1941, in Nevada, to Leroy R. and Hazel Irene Spainhoward. He attended the Hannon Baptist Church as a small child. He was a graduate of Nevada High School. Darrell married Sharon Kay Hobbs in Nevada, on Aug. 7, 1964.
Darrell was a chemical specialist at Thompson and Hayword, which later became known as Harcross in Kansas city, Mo. He retired in 1996. That same year, he and. his wife moved to the Liberal area from Gardner, Kan.
He loved fishing and hunting. His life revolved around his kids, grandkids and his little dog.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Shelton and husband Darryl of Liberal, and Dana Cooley of Garner, Kan.; one brother, Larry Riggs of Lexington, Mo.; four grandchildren, Hannah Leigh Shelton, Elizabeth Rose Rea, Joseph Michael Cooley, and Janet Liegh Cooley; and four great-grandchildren, Curran Rea, Honor Rea. Blaise Bailey and Connor Cooley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sharon, on April 30, 2004; and one sister, Katie Dahmer.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Konantz-Warden Funeral Home Chapel, Lamar, with the Rev. C.K. Warden officiating. Song selections will be "Waiting For You," "Footprints in the Sand" and "In the Arms of an Angel."
Pallbearers will be John Pickering, Keith Rea, Chris Martinez, Larry Colvin, Tom Stewart and Terry Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers will be Darryl Shelton and Joseph Cooley. Interment will be in Leroy Cemetery, Barton County, Mo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.
