Middle school basketball returns to action

The Nevada Middle School boys' basketball teams showed mixed performances this week.

On Monday, both the seventh and eighth grade A and B teams squared off against Lamar. The seventh graders won the B game, 26-22, but fell in the A game by a final score of 38-27. Austin Sims paced the Tigers in the B game with 16 points while Tristan Smith had 16 in the A game to lead the offense.

The eighth graders had a strong night against Lamar in both the A and B games as they won the A game, 58-32, and the B game by a final score of 28-23. Bryant McKinley led the offense in the B game with nine points while Brett Norton and Alex Payne paced the A game with 15 apiece.

On Tuesday, both the seventh and eighth graders got back into action against El Dorado Springs and earned strong victories in all three games played. In the seventh grade B game, the Tigers won by a final score of 22-12 and followed that up in the A game with a 27-14 victory. Isaac Williams led the offense in the B game with six points while Tristan Smith had 13 in the A game.

The eighth graders played just one game on the night instead of the usual two and picked up a strong, 57-11 victory. Grant Wolfe led the offense with 14 points.

With those games, the seventh grade A team's record now stands at 4-3, while the A team is 2-5. The eighth grade A team is 6-2 on the year and the B team is 4-3.

Both seventh and eighth grade teams are scheduled to be back in action tonight as they head to Joplin East.
