Rawhide Arena moves to Greely, Kan.
GREELY, Kan. -- A popular rodeo arena has moved to better serve its patrons.
The Rawhide Arena & Co. has moved from it's location in Blairstown, Mo., to the former location of D & M Cattle Arena in Greely, Kan. According to Peggy Cummings, with Rawhide Arena & Co., the move was made because a lot of the people coming to compete in their events were coming from the Kansas City area and they wanted to move closer.
Going into it's fifth season of hosting competitions, Cummings said the crowd and the number of competitors have tripled. In addition, the number of events offered has increased. In the 2006 season, 17 events were held, in 2007 37 events were held, in 2008, 47 events were held, and in 2009 57 events were held.
Events hosted at Rawhide Arena & Co. are held for every age. Events scheduled for the 2010 season include: MoKan Youth Rodeo, CYRA Youth Rodeo, NFPB Bull Riding, Queen Contest, Mutton Bustin, Ranch Rodeos, Team Roping, and Ranch Sorting.
This year, Rawhide Arena & Co. will be hosting rough stock practice on Wednesday nights beginning in May and team roping practice on Thursday nights as well as ranch sort practice on Tuesday nights.
We are very proud to say the cowboys voted Rawhide Arena & Co. the 2006 MRCA Rodeo of the Year.
According to Cummings, the arena is also a popular place for groups such as the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts to visit and learn about rodeo. She said they have had groups of children come from across Kansas and Missouri to visit the arena.
