Chef and Child run and walk set for Aug. 28

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Chef William Askew, certified executive chef at the Nevada Country Club, is preparing for his annual Chef and Child 5K Night Run and 1 Mile Walk which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28. Askew put on the event last year and is as dedicated as ever to the causes he supports.

According to this year's press release, Askew said, "We are dedicated to the advancement of good nutrition for children and education to help them make better choices to form healthy eating habits."

For Askew the run was a way to combine his interests and to help raise money for charity, in this case the Chef and Child Foundation. The foundation raises money for education programs at schools and works with the government to plan healthy menus for school children as well as a variety of other programs.

For Askew, there is one drawback to organizing such an event, as he stated last year: "Since I organized it, I can't run. I have a lot to do that night and I can't take part in the race."

The registration is $10 per person, is tax deductible and children under 10 are free. Advance registration can be mailed in and race night registration starts at 8 p.m. in the Nevada Country Club Pro Shop.

The release states that since this is a night race, heat isn't as much of a problem as a race during the day and that it is the only night race in the area.

"This is a night race so the heat of August will not bother you. Bring your own head lamp or flashlight. The route takes place on the golf course and cart paths ... This will be a great time for all ages and all levels of ability," the release states. "Tell your friends and come out and join the fun in this unusual race; there are no other night races in the area."
