Council OKs liquor license for special event
It took the Nevada City Council all of five minutes Wednesday night to complete both items on the special meeting's agenda before adjourning to an executive session to discuss the possible purchase or sale of real estate as permitted under Missouri Sunshine Law.
First the council voted 5-0 to give final approval to an increase of the city's property tax levy to 67.78 cents per $100 assessed valuation, which is the maximum rate set by the Missouri State Auditor. The rate for 2009 was 67.36 cents. The library tax will remain at 20 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The council passed the ordinance on first reading Aug. 17 and had to finalize it before the end of August to be in effect this year.
The council also voted 5-0 to adopt Resolution No. 1302 approving a picnic liquor license for the Nevada Elks Lodge, 510 N. Centennial Blvd., to sell beer and light wine on Sept. 10 in their parking lot at a barbecue competition.
