Senator Pearce to participate in Midwestern Higher Education Compact
JEFFERSON CITY--Senator David Pearce (R-Warrensburg) will be participating in the annual policy summit and commission meeting of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact held in Detroit, Mich., on Nov. 15-17.
This summit will begin with a presentation by president and CEO and founder of Marga Incorporated, David Maurasse. Maurasse and his firm are dedicated to the future of education, blazing trails and strengthening existing pathways using cross-sector partnerships and strategic philanthropic initiative in order to harness resources to improve our world.
"This is the kind of event that allows people who want to be involved in shaping the future [to] do so," Sen. Pearce said. "This summit will focus on, among other things, how community development and transformation can be impacted by institutions of higher education." Other discussions will include panels on education's impact on local economies from the viewpoints of research universities, community and technical colleges and liberal arts institutions.
The MHEC was formed in 1991 and since then has been committed to cost-savings programs, student access and policy and research and analysis. The compact is comprised of 12 member states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The commissioners, who are appointed from amongst leaders in higher education, the legislature and the governor's office, meet twice a year to discuss current issues.
