Nevada police step up enforcement on Austin for pedestrian safety

In an effort to address concerns from citizens about traffic speed and vehicles failing to stop at lights or yield at crosswalks in the area of Cottey College, the Nevada Police Department has stepped up traffic enforcement in the area.

A press release noted that the department had "received several complaints" from students, Cottey College staff and citizens living and traveling in the area that vehicles, from cars to commercial vehicles, have been speeding, and haven't been stopping at the signal located at Austin and College. Students also have complained that vehicles are not stopping at the crosswalk.

The Nevada Police Department urges all drivers to use caution in the area, slow their vehicles and to be watchful of pedestrians in the area. Enforcement activity will take place around the clock, but specific times, how long the enforcement effort will continue and number of officers assigned to this effort was not disclosed.

I have seen cars go through the yellow flashing lights often, I don't think drivers know to stop unless they see a red light and that doesn't always happen either. Several people do not know what a solid white line is either and they are always crossing them even a solid double yellow line is not to be crossed and you see them cross them by Family Video, KFC and so on and cops never give them tickets. People need read the rules of the road again you don't have to be a rocket scientist.

What about the rest of Austin? My wife was run off the road by a grain truck that was doing at least 50 mph and she had our child in the car. I can count several times that I had to wait for a semi to go through the intersection because they ran a red light. So now they are worried about the Cotty area? Just once I would like to see the cops in nevada pull over a semi instead of some of the less affluent that it always appear that they target.
