Southern Symphony Orchestra to present 'Symphony in Springtime'
JOPLIN, Mo. -- After the epic snow storm in early February, spring is more welcome than ever! Join the Southern Symphony Orchestra at Missouri Southern State University for "Symphony in Springtime" to celebrate the approaching season.
The Southern Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kexi Liu, will perform the concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, at Taylor Performing Arts Center on MSSU campus. Admission is free.
The music of this program portrays spring scenes of different countries in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. On the program are Spring Festival Overture by Li Huanzhi (China), Violin Concerto in E Major (Spring) by A. Vivaldi (Italy), Printemps (Spring) by C. Debussy (France), and Symphony No. 1 (Spring) by R. Schumann (Germany).
Dr. Selim Giray will be the featured soloist of this concert. He is associate professor of violin, viola and chamber music at Pittsburg State University. He has performed extensively in four continents, and has appeared frequently on the radio and television.
He has performed as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. Currently, is Concertmaster and Assistant Conductor of The Ohio Light Opera.
