Gas leak disrupts traffic

Crews from the Nevada police and fire departments and Empire District Gas Company responded to a call at the corner of Perkins and Hunter streets in western Nevada on Friday morning, when a construction worker using a trencher ruptured a natural gas line. Responders quickly blocked off the area and advised residents "to shelter in their homes," said Lieutenant Kelly Wingert of the Nevada Fire Department. Empire District spokesperson Emily Stanley said the break was at the end of the line and there was no interruption of service. It took workers "about an hour" to repair the two-inch pipe, according to Stanley.
