Hume Fair and Rodeo kicks off Tuesday
Known as "The Biggest Little Fair," the 69th Annual Hume Fair and Rodeo will start with the serving of ham and beans and a draft horse pull at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., Tuesday.
At 8 p.m. Friday, the first of two rodeos will be held, following a Wednesday night ice cream social and Gospel singing and Thursday night kiddie pedal pull and Hume Olympics in the rodeo arena.
Friday will see fair entries from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Legion Hall, 8:30-9 a.m. registration for the Zero-to-Pre-K Kids' Games and 12:30-1 p.m. entries for the K-17 Kids' Games. Hume is 30 miles northwest of Nevada in southwest Bates County.
There will be a pets' contest at 4 p.m., Friday, in Hume Park and a 6 p.m. talent show at the bandstand before the rodeo's first performance, which will be capped with dance music by the Muddy Creek band.
Saturday's baby contest will be at 8:30 a.m., horseshoe pitching at 9, the parade at 11 a.m. and, at 1 p.m., a washer-pitching tournament south of the bandstand and a garden tractor pull west of the rodeo arena. There will be a Saturday afternoon car show at the northeast corner of the Square.
El Dorado Springs Opry House entertainers will perform from 12:30-4 p.m., Saturday.
The fair prince and princess will be crowned at 2 p.m., Saturday; prizes will be drawn for at 3; and the rodeo's second night will begin at 8 p.m.m Saturday with the queen's coronation. Muddy Creek also will play Saturday night.
