CARTHAGE -- With the postseason getting closer and closer, the Nevada High School girls golf team continues to make progress.
The Tigers finished fourth at the Taco Town/Carthage Invitational on Monday.
Senior Morgan Turner led the way for the Tigers. Turner shot a 100 and finished tied for fifth place with Carl Junction's Paige Drummond and Ivy Borland of Carthage.
"She's playing well right now, and she's really working on getting her scores down," Nevada Coach Brian Leonard said.
Courtney Catron of Carthage took first place with a 95 and Maddie Ferson of Carl Junction was one stroke back for second.
Nevada's Danielle Smith shot a 109 and finished 11th overall. Leonard said it was Smith's best performance to date. Also for Nevada, Hannah Householder had a 111, Myra Ornelas shot a 120 and Maddie Johnson had a 137.
Leonard said the Carthage Municipal Golf Course is not an easy course to play.
"The back nine is really tough," he said. "It will bite you."
Next, the team received some bad news recently, as junior Emmaly Ellis is now out for the season with an injury. Despite the loss of Ellis, Leonard said the team will keep plugging away.
"We're trying to get the scores down," Leonard said. "We're going to be working on some course management things in the next couple of days to see where we can improve."
The team heads back to Carthage on Thursday. The Tigers will host an invite on Monday at 4 p.m. The Tigers will head to the district tournament at Marshfield next Wednesday. Those who advance will head to the sectional the following week.
