Reed arrested on multiple warrants

On Oct. 14, Nevada police officers received information that developed into an operation to apprehend a wanted fugitive at 640 N. Hoffman St. in Nevada, Mo., according to a press release issued by the Nevada Police Department.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Dillon Reed, 22, of Nevada and the seizure of suspected drugs and related drug paraphernalia.

At the time of his arrest, Reed had 17 active arrest warrants for charges including resisting arrest, failure to appear on previous charges and probation violation.

Some of the charges against Reed are the result of an incident that took place in Nevada on Sept. 2, when Reed fled from officers at the Board of Probation and Parole office at 330 S. Prewitt in Nevada after he was presented with an arrest warrant.

Reed escaped and he and two other subjects raced through town and into the Rolling Acres residential area on the west side of Nevada. Reed leaped from the Jeep Liberty and disappeared on foot. The other two subjects in the vehicle were taken into custody.

Reed is being held in the Vernon County Jail without bond. Additional charges related to Reed's arrest are expected, according to the press release.

Did I miss something? I never heard we had a fugitive fleeing from the police. It wasn't in any police report unless I missed it. We finally got some past sheriff reports but still missing for the period of Sept 8th to Sept 25th. A person can hear more about Nevada crimes by reading Springfield and Pettsburg news.

I agree with you Man of Wisdom. I think that it is obvious that people are not doing there jobs like they should be.

Well I was emailed by someone that lives in Springfield,and they quoted from their Newspaper, that Nevada is the number one crime City in the State of Missouri. I don't think I need to comment further! Take a look around and listen to what people are saying.

Go to a court session some time. The same people get probation, time after time. I know of one woman who has 7 felonies since 2007 and is still on the streets. She has a hearing next year for 4 more.

What does it take to get convicted in this town? 17 active warrants! You got to be kidding me! I personally have spent countless hours waiting to testify on people and get a conviction and have only had to do it once. Wasted time for me and money! I have a hard time understanding justice in today's society whatsoever. If anyone has an explination I would be glad to hear it, till then I am currently waiting to go to court again and spend more wasted time with the same result!

I believe the crime rate in Nevada has definitely progressed through out the years, and after reading this article today, along with past articles- how things are, and are not being handled- is ridiculous!

It is very apparent that this town has become what it has, because people are not doing their job- and if they say they are, they are not being honest in their work- corruption.

I hate that every time something comes out in the paper about someone getting arrested or something going wrong in the community that the Vernon County Sheriff and staff as well as the City of Nevada are not doing there jobs. Well, they can only do so much! The rest of it is up to the people of the community to help as well. All of the city police as well as county do not get paid enough as it is, and then to think that they need to spend more time on chasing people!They have a job to do besides chase after one person day after day. They are under staffed, and we have commissioners who are not willing to give a little more on a budget to get the staff that they need. So the next time you think that they are not doing the jobs they should,think about how many days you could go without seeing your family, or how many school events of your children's you might have to miss, or the fact that for the little pay they get they are willing to take a bullet for someone they don't know that is always talking about how they don't do the job.

It's not the police or sheriff, the courts are too lenient. People will violate probation time after time because rhey know that nothing will be done.

i know of a guy that has had 7 yes i said 7 drug relaited charges and some of them were in a school zone anyone care to quess where he is at yep thanks to our courts he is as free as we are i agree with sam its not the police or the sheriffs its our courts

$30,000 may be the average income in Vernon County, but it's still poverty level. You can survive, but you are going to struggle. I know I would not put my life on the line, nor would I miss out on my children's lives for $30,000 a year. The officers and deputies do it because they are passionate about their jobs and they do their jobs to the best of their ability, all the while being bashed, criticized and disrespected by the very people they have been sworn to protect and serve.

The problems are not within our police department or the sheriff's department. They can arrest people all day long, and sometimes do, but if the courts fail to pursue the charges these people are continually arrested for then there is not much that can be done, until voting time.

You people act like our law enforcement agencies are failing us, you are so very wrong, its the one's in elected positions that are failing us and the people of this community have put them in those positions.

I agree with undercover boss the crime rate in this town is way to high. I can understand why they ignore to print, no one would move here......Also agree with the comments of if the judge would take care of it then there is a threat to the criminal to not commit the crime! As to the pay for the police officers, they are way underpaid, not just here everywhere. I personally know a police officer who lost his life on the job.

Sounds like we all need to get out and vote come election time and get the new P.A. and judge!

im not going to say that i am correct on this so dont slam me to hard but isnt the county assor also a public servent and he makes more then our police and i bet he hasnt been shot at punched spit on or any of that i was driving to work to and right on austin there were 2 of our fine police cars parked windows down just talking now maybe they were planning a huge drug bust that hasnt been published in our paper yet but im gonna bet no but i couldnt help but wonder if a old man with a cane walked by would lights come on as they tracked him down

I don't believe Mr. Reed was going up to the police stating, "I have 17 warrants, watcha going to do bout that?" I am sure he was slithering around not being able to be arrested. I am also sure the police department would have arrested him before now if they could have found him. The best thing for him is to be locked up so he would have the chance to clean up.

Normal procedure here is to put them on 120 day callback, which means they serve a whopping 4 months. And then get probation, again.

I know the comments are often critical and negative but it does make voters aware of what goes on in town and what the issues and concerns are. The voters need to be educated about who the candidates are and what they do. The disagreements help to educate us on the issues.

Oh dear heavens... if Man of Wisdom should get elected to office; we should all run and hide!!

The Nevada Police Department is comprised of 17 -- 19 FT Officers. The population of Nevada is somewhere around 8300 with a square mileage of 9 miles and I am willing to bet that the number of those that break the law greatly outweigh the number of officers.

Contrary to what might think crimes are not solved & suspects are not apprehended or taken into custody within an hour like you see on the "Hollywood" versions of crime shows.

I haven't followed these as closely as I could have, so could somebody please tell me who exactly the "elite group" is? Members, etc. I'm confused.

What gets me is all the people who don't live in the city limits worry about city problems. Even if you on a business in Nevada it doesn't matter. If you want to make a change move in the city limits and vote.

We're lucky to have a deputy on in the county in the evening we sure don't have 24 hour protection as was promised by the sheriff when he was elected.

Nobody mentioned the over rated and basically lazy Missouri Highway Patrol that do little to nothing, except due an accident report after someone is dead. Instead of being on the highways catching drunks and slowing down all of the fools driving crazy.

Probation and Parole is a joke all they are social workers, DFS should be doing their jobs.

People what it boils down to is the Good Citizens have to protect themselves, their love ones and property.

We don't need any more govt what we need is old fashion vigilante justice.

Remember it's better to judged by 12 of your peers, than carried by six of your friends.

A word of credit to mrs wade....I dont live in the city limits of nevada thus I dont care about city governemnt too much....this however remains a fact: she does not hide behind false names. I can understand why some do though...psychopathy is something many prefer to be hid behind a cloak of anonymity

Well it don't help any when the cops do, do their jobs and then people get attorneys and the attorneys get them off. I know of several people who have been arrested for DWI's and they hired an attorney and got off! No wonder the cops in Nevada don't do their jobs, I wouldn't either. These people are drinking and driving and putting innocent people in danger. So much for Missouri's law on we wont tollerate drinking and driving. Because in Nevada it is not go to jail it's get out of jail and go drink and drive some more. And then when you kill someone maybe, just maybe we will leave you in jail.

Ok so instead of criticizing our police officers, somebody please tells us what we need to do. Our kids have no respect for us as parents, the law or authority! We all agree that drugs are a big problem in Vernon County. However, what can we do as citizens to fix it? Vote for somebody else? Ok I am all for that, but who is that somebody else? In addition, how do we know that that somebody else is going to really help our county?

For the first time I totally agree with howitzer. A child is our chance as parents to make up for our own mistakes and raise them to be the best citizens/person they can be.

Recent as of a couple years to the area the teen pregnacy rate is out of this world. Both my children graduated in two different states and neither of them went to school with a pregnant girl, neither! Not one, not just in their class but in the entire highschool. Some good control education could be used here! As for parenting yes it starts there but some people just give birth and forget to parent and the school for the sake of the kid and community should try to help those children.
