Buildet crew joins Joplin Extreme Makeover project
Local contractors are looking forward to doing their part beginning Wednesday, Oct. 19, when a national television reality show takes on a massive project in Joplin.
The Emmy-award-winning reality program, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is conducting a "blitz build" of seven homes in seven days in Joplin, as part of the effort to rebuild in that community, and Buildet will be there.
Buildet, a Nevada general contracting company, was created when Chris Hendren and Wes Ogle, well-known local contractors, joined forces to form the new company.
Ogle is spearheading the firm's role of framing lead for one of the homes. There's a contractor in charge of each home who assigns two others, who in turn assign leads for each phase.
A business associate in Springfield asked Buildet to be their lead framer, so Buildet, represented by 15 people, will work with other contractors beginning at 2 p.m., today and finishing by 8 a.m., Thursday
"We just thought it would be good, being a fairly new company, to do some volunteer work. Just helpin' out the neighbors," Ogle said.
More than 40 companies are taking part in the build. Among them is Sam Clifton, of Millstone Homes, LLC, who's leading the effort. "Building these seven homes in seven days will be one of the most ambitious constructon projects ever attempted in our area," he said. "We are thrilled to be a part of this massive undertaking. It will be no small task, but our team is eager to help rebuild Joplin in the aftermath of the devastation we experienced in May."
At the site, spectators are encouraged to attend to show support of the project.
