NEVADA -- Two former longtime educators and coaches at Nevada High School will be honored before Friday night's football game with Clinton.
Leland Day and Larry Hurst will be recognized with a pre-game ceremony.
"Both men made an indelible mark on the lives of the Nevada youth they taught and coached, in addition to touching the faculty and staff they worked with," Nevada High School Athletic Director Kevin McKinley said.
In memory of these two longtime Nevada educators, each man has had a red maple tree planted in their honor at the northwest entrance of Logan Field, McKinley said.
"Nevada Athletics would like to thank the friends, former students and R-5 coworkers for contributing to this cause," McKinley said.
Day was inducted into the Nevada High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Day was Head Coach of the 1994 state champion NHS girls track team and coached the girls track team to a fourth place finish at state in 1997.
Day was also an assistant coach on the 1975 state runner-up NHS football team. Day passed away in March after a sudden illness.
Next, Hurst was the Nevada High School head football coach from 1987-1991. Hurst was also the school's Head Wrestling Coach from 1977-1988.
Hurst passed away in 2009.

In addition to honoring the former coaches, Nevada High School's football team will celebrate Senior Night this Friday night before the game with Clinton. Senior Night activities should begin at 6:35 p.m., with the ceremony to honor the former coaches to follow.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
