Public comment sought for Vernon County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan

Saturday, October 29, 2011

Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission has completed the Vernon County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and is asking for public comment before submitting the completed copy to the State Emergency Management Agency.

The plan is available on Kaysinger's Web site at www.kaysinger.com under the "programs" tab, click on "hazard mitigation."

The plan will be available for two weeks.

This plan, once approved by SEMA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will provide federal disaster mitigation fund opportunities and become a proper document to be used in the event of a natural disaster along with an emergency operations plan. This plan was created to reduce losses to participating jurisdictions from damage caused by natural hazards events, a press release said.

Taxpayers pay billions of dollars each year for disaster recovery. Some events are predictable and often damages can be reduced or eliminated. The state of Missouri is taking preventative measures to ensure counties are eligible for receiving FEMA and SEMA grant funding through this natural hazard mitigation plan.
