City purchases 100 weather radios
The city of Nevada is working towards a goal of preparedness. The American Red Cross Southern Missouri Regional office in Nevada recently had a request from the city of Nevada to purchase 100 emergency weather radios, according to a press release from the organization.
Through a loss prevention program with the city insurance provider, part of the premiums are set aside and able to be used for quarterly rewards based on meeting different goals that ultimately help prevent insurance claims. Each quarter a goal is set by the city committee to determine where to focus for the next quarter.
For one of the quarterly goals this year, every city employee will attend a storm spotter training class. "The class is not for certification, but to create awareness and to ensure that each employee has knowledge about storms and what to watch for during dangerous weather." said Sharon Kegler, human resources director for the city of Nevada. The employee reward upon completion of the training is a Red Cross Emergency Weather Radio, the press release said.
Peggy Tedlock, executive director of financial development at the Nevada Red Cross office, said, "We are so happy that the city of Nevada has chosen to purchase the weather radios from the American Red Cross. It is very important that all individuals be prepared and have a dependable weather radio when we have threatening weather. The weather radio alert may help them find a safe place if needed and can save many lives."
