Casting call today for documentary
Two Nevada musicians are filming auditions tonight for a documentary movie they are planning about the Vernon County area.
Brothers Matt and "Dangerous Doug" Harper will start recording brief interviews about 7:30 p.m. today outside their Armadillo Sound Studio on the northwest side of the downtown Square at 129 N. Main St.
Matt Harper said Thursday that each person will get about 90 seconds to tell what they would most like to communicate about Nevada. He said 29 people will ultimately be chosen to appear in the as-yet untitled documentary and preliminary indications had been that as many as 100 might show up.
Seeking national corporate and regional business sponsorships, Doug Harper said they have set a budget of $50,000 but could complete the film for about $38,000 by cutting back on promotion. "I don't think a book about Nevada would be as culturally relevant as a movie," he said.
"This will open people's eyes in the community and they'll say, 'Hey, this is really a cool place.' I don't want to give away the ending, but viewers who are not from Nevada will answer a question in their own minds."
Harper had said in a news release that the casting call "is open to anyone wanting to audition 18 years old or older. The casting team is making a public shout-out to find folks from our area.
"Have you ever wanted to be in a movie? Here's your chance. No acting experience is needed, but in front of a camera public speaking, debate or acting experience are a plus. All you have to do is show up and form a line, then one at a time each person will answer a couple of questions on camera.
"These interviews will be posted to YouTube for the team to look at. We'll give consideration to the general viewing audience, so look your best and put on a Hollywood smile."
Doug Harper said the project will entail eight phases with the current Phase One including pre-production, casting and soundtrack work. He said updates will be posted as they develop on the ExperienceNevadaMo.com Web site.

In a separate event, the singer-songwriter-guitarist will perform original music and record a live album in an 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, concert on the studio stage. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens and $1 for college students.
"In 2001, an album titled 'South Street and Grand' was recorded," he said. "It was somewhat legendary in certain circles, but it was only in print for a short six months before becoming extinct. The songs have lived on and some will be performed Jan. 21 for the first time in over 10 years.
"The performance will be just like the original recording -- one man, one guitar and one awesome sound."
