Burn ban continues in Nevada
A drought-related ban on open burning remains in effect in the city of Nevada.
Nevada Fire Chief Bob Benn said Tuesday that the restriction put in effect Jan. 10 will remain in effect until the area receives "a significant amount of precipitation."
Despite rain in today's forecast, the burn ban could continue if there's not enough rain to adequately mitigate fire risk.
"Please consider the damage that could be caused to your property as well as your neighbors' property before you start burning, please call the fire department at (417) 448-2720 before you light the fire to see if the department has reinstated open burning," the department cautions.
The department also is "strongly discouraging" any burning within the four-mile radius covered by Nevada rural fire protection.
