Hume girls, NEVC boys take tourney titles

HUME -- The host Hornets won the girls title at the Hume Tournament last Saturday, beating El Dorado Christian 58-32.
Hume (13-2) was led by Makena Thompson's 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tori Sears added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Emily Brooks scored 11 and handed out nine assists.
Hume led 16-5 right away and had a 23-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
NEVC wins boys title at Hume
Northeast Vernon County defeated Butler's JV team 63-48 in the boys championship game. It was the second-straight year the Knights won the tourney. Three seniors led the way for NEVC in the title game, as Grant Davis scored 23, while Jacob Bell and Tanner Stutzman added 13 apiece. Richard Lyness contributed 10 points. Davis also had nine rebounds, while Bell had six steals and Stutzman handed out six assists.
