Police nab suspects in air conditioner theft

Friday, February 3, 2012

Two Nevadans --believed to be members of a theft ring responsible for the stealing of air conditioner units, copper tubing and other scrap metal in and around Nevada -- are facing felony charges connected to a recent theft from a vacant building in the 900 block of Subway, Nevada.

Detective Sgt. Jeff Baker said that the suspects, Louis Slichenmyer, 32, and Jennifer S. Mullen, 29, have been accused in connection with the stealing of an air conditioner unit from the structure on Subway.

Slichenmeyer is charged with one count of felony stealing; Mullen faces one count of felony possession of stolen property.

Surveillance camera equipment captured images of potential suspects as they committed the theft. This valuable evidence led police to further their investigation, a press release said. They were able to determine where the property had been transported and the location outside the city limits at which it was sold for scrap. Police Chief W. Graham Burnley added that he was happy to report that modern technology had again aided law enforcement in pursuit of justice.

The two suspects have been taken into custody and are held at the Vernon County Jail.

Local police report that there have been five air conditioner units reported stolen from buildings in the last three months. Most of these incidents occurred at vacant buildings or structures under construction.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the police if they have any information that would be helpful to combat crime.
