David Leroy Franz
David Leroy Franz, 89, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center. He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Nevada, to Robert Phillip Franz and Edith Mae Culler Franz. He married Margaret Hazel Lamb on Nov. 5, 1945, in Salinas, Calif., and she preceded him in death on June 4, 1992.
David graduated from Nevada High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-'46 during World War II in Ft. Ord, Calif., as a sergeant. Following his service, he came back to Nevada where he was a carpenter his whole life. David was a member of the Carpenter's Union and the United Methodist Church. Following his retirement, he made custom built furniture.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharron Christine Johnson, Nevada, Vonda Mae Jackson and her husband David, Nevada, and Becky Marie Penn and her husband Tim, Nevada; one son, David Lee Franz and his wife Carrie, Athens, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Lorinda Justus and her husband Ron, Phoenix, Ariz., Jeremy Jackson, Springfield, Mo., Jodi Jackson and Kate Bulger, Atlanta, Ga., Daniel Penn, Nevada, Kristin Penn, St. Louis, Mo., and Katelyn Penn, Nevada; and five great-grandchildren, Michael and Kevin Justice, Colin Jackson, Nate Jackson and Ethan Raper. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Franz, and one infant son, Timothy Phillip Franz.
A private graveside service was held in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, on Thursday, May 10, under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home.
