Republicans to face one of three Democrats for sheriff's seat in August
Nevada Daily Mail
An inadvertently misleading statement in a story about a GOP sheriff's candidate forum sparked the ire of some of the supporters of Democratic candidates for sheriff.
Contacting the Daily Mail, callers said a statement that the Republicans are hoping to take on incumbent Ron Peckman in November implied an assumption that Peckman will emerge the winner in the Aug 7 primary.
"Certainly, that is not the case and was never our intent; and the truth is, I misspoke," said Nevada Daily Mail Editor Lynn A. Wade, who also wrote the story. "The story should have said Republicans are vying for the chance to take on the Democrat who prevails in the Aug. 7 primary."
Democratic candidates for sheriff are Peckman, Michael Bullinger, Nevada; and Todd Joseph Davis, Nevada.
Questionnaires have been mailed to all of the candidates in contested races (more than one candidate filed in the same party) in Vernon County. Any candidate in a contested race who has not yet received a questionnaire should contact the Nevada Daily Mail newsroom by phone at (417) 667-3344; by e-mail at editor@nevadadailymail.com; or come by the office to pick one up.
