MARSHFIELD, Mo. -- Though the results didn't really show it, the Nevada Lady Tigers golf team came home from the Marshfield Tournament at the par-70 Marshfield Country Club with a strong showing.
"I was very pleased with the scores of the girls today," Lady Tigers head coach Brian Leonard said. "They are starting to bring the scores down."
Of the eight schools competing for the tournament title, the Lady Tigers finished seventh with an overall score of 402, but only finished a total of 40 strokes behind overall winner Mount Vernon and just five behind the only other district opponent they faced on the day, Logan-Rogersville. "Even though we placed seventh today, I really feel good going into the last half of the season," Leonard said.
Hannah Householder led the way for the Lady Tigers as she tied for 19th place individually with an overall score of 95. Not far behind was Danielle Smith, who tied for 23rd with her 26-over 96.
Michael Jones had her best outing of the year as she finished the course in 105 strokes. Rounding out the order for Nevada were Maddie Johnson and Jenney Mosbrucker, who finished at 107 and 110, respectively.
Leonard said he is very confident going into the home stretch of the season and that he knows his players should be able to knock four or five more strokes off of their ever-improving scores by the time the district tournament begins on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The Lady Tigers won't have to wait long to see if the improvement continues as they are scheduled to head back out on the road on Friday for the Carl Junction Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
