RICH HILL, Mo. -- Sacred Heart High School (Sedalia, Mo.) outlasted a 3 1/2-hour lightning delay and defeated the Rich Hill Tigers, 39-18, Friday night, spoiling the Tigers' Senior Night.
Rich Hill quarterback Jason Thompson scored the game's first touchdown on a 17-yard run late in the first quarter, only to see the Gremlins take control on a 22-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and a 65-yard score by Malik Hackett midway through the second period.
Riley Cameron's 5-yard touchdown run pulled the Tigers within two at 14-12, with 3 1/2 minutes left in the opening half, but Sacred Heart responded when Michael Hohne scored from 11 yards out on the ensuing possession and the Gremlins took a 21-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Keyaire Marshall returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown 4 minutes into the second half before Rich Hill senior Josh Robb scored on a short run late in the third quarter to cut his team's deficit to 27-18. Lightning delayed the game just 9 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Gremlins stopped a Rich Hill drive and sealed the win with two touchdowns when play resumed after midnight.
The Tigers are now 0-8 on the year. Rich Hill is set to travel to Cole Camp, Mo., next Friday.
