Zola Mae Mayfield
Zola Mae Mayfield, 79, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Community Springs Healthcare, El Dorado Springs, Mo. She was born June 2, 1933, in Nevada, Mo., to George Irl Weber and Stella Holmes Weber. She married Wendell W. Mayfield on April 14, 1951, in Ceres, Calif., and he survives of the home.
Zola was born in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1951. She lived and worked as a telephone operator in California from 1951-'57. She moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1957. Zola returned to Vernon County in 1973 and lived in Nevada since 2009. She worked for Kress Store in Nevada and also as a telephone operator for a number of years. Zola was a housewife and according to her husband, the "better half" on their farm in Vernon County running the cattle ranch while her husband worked away from home in Kansas.
Survivors include her husband, Wendell, of 61 years; three sons, Frank A. Mayfield, Costa Mesa, Calif., Daniel L. Mayfield, and Matthew G. Mayfield, both of Miami, Okla.; one grandson, Daniel Morgan Mayfield; three granddaughters, Kia, Ashley and Rosalee Mayfield; one sister, Annabelle Spencer, Dederick, Mo.; two brothers, Leland Weber, Nevada, Mo., and Johnny Weber, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Henry Weber; two stepbrothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Robert Fox officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home.
