Nevada golfers fare well at Carl Junction
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. -- The Nevada Tigers golf team got back into action Monday, heading back out on the road to play in the Bird Dog Invitational tournament.
The Eagles of Joplin won the team title at the Briarbrook Country Club course with a team score of 340 -- 16 strokes fewer than the 356 turned in by runner-up Carthage. Nevada finished sixth at 379, just three strokes out of the top five.
Carthage's Austin Bunnell and Joplin's Griffin Locke tied for the individual best score at 80. Andrew Quitno shared sixth place with a "good round of 84," Tigers head coach Brian Leonard said, while Levi Palmer tied for eighth place at 87 and Keegan Bell shared 13th at 89.
"I was very pleased with our top three scores," Leonard said.
The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, traveling to Country Creek Golf Course to take on Pleasant Hill.
"In spite of the lack of practices on the course, I was very pleased with the outcome of our first three tournaments," Leonard said. "We will continue to fight the weather, but warmer days must be ahead. We are going to concentrate on the short game the next few weeks leading up to the district tournament the first week of May."
