Nevada baseball defeats Webb City
CARTHAGE -- The Nevada Tigers defeated Webb City, 8-1, Monday in the first game of the 39th annual Bill O'Dell Baseball Tournament.
Alex Payne was 1-for-4 and drove in three runs -- including two in the first inning with a double. Easton Mitchell was 2-for-3 and scored twice.
Grant Wolfe pitched the first five innings, working around two hits and nine walks to take the win. Taylor Manes pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-1 on the season and will return to Carthage at 4:30 p.m., Thursday to take on the Indians of Seneca.
In Monday's other games at Carthage, the host Tigers defeated Lamar, 9-1, and Mt. Vernon edged Monett, 6-5. Tuesday's games were postponed to Wednesday and have been rescheduled at the same times: Carl Junction vs. Seneca at 2 p.m., Mt. Vernon vs. Lamar at 4:30 p.m., and Carthage vs. Monett at 7 p.m.
