Bronaugh and Deerfield volunteer fire departments and Vernon County Sheriff's deputies were called to a 218 W. 3rd St. in Moundville just before noon on Tuesday to find a residence in flames. The cause of the fire is undetermined, according to Bronaugh firefighter John Post, and the house was destroyed. Bill Smith of the Deerfield Fire Department said the fire was in the attic and when the ceilings started coming down, it became too dangerous to stay in the house. Firefighters started backing out and "just tried to keep it from spreading," Smith said. It took firefighters four or five hours to put the fire completely out according to Post. The names of the residents were not available at press time. Carolyna Morris/Special to the Daily Mail.
