Nevada boys' golf competes at Bolivar Invitational tournament

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Nevada Tiger golf team finished eighth in the Bolivar Invitational Monday with a team score of 363.

"Not bad, considering we only had two 80s and the other two scores we had to use were close to or over 100," Leonard said

The same storm that moved through Vernon County Sunday evening left the course wet and that eliminated any roll on the fairways, but head coach Brian Leonard said the greens were "quick and smooth."

Bolivar won the team title with an overall score of 322, three strokes fewer than the runner-up Republic Tigers. Marshfield was third at 331, followed by Lebanon, Fair Grove, Cassville, Willard, Nevada, Carl Junction and Neosho and Webb City.

Clayton Moles, Marshfield took the individual championship with a 73. Nevada Tigers Andrew Quitno and Levi Palmer both carded 80.

"Nice finish for both of these two," Leonard said.

Keegan Bell struggled with his driver through the first 14 holes, leading to an inflated score of 96, while Andrew Schmidt shot a 107. Daxtyn Osburn rounded out the order for the Tigers at 109.

Next on the schedule for the Tigers is the Marshfield Tournament, which is set for Thursday.

Leonard said the Tigers will compete at home twice this year, in late additions to the schedule. The Tigers will host the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs in a dual match at 4 p.m., April 25, and the Bears of Butler High School, at 4 p.m., April 18, at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course, in Nevada.
