Cottey basketball adds new players

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Head coach Dave Ketterman's Cottey College basketball team has added a pair of names to its 2013-14 roster.

Linsey Denney is a 5-foot-10-inch guard/forward, from Everton, Mo. She will graduate from Everton High School with the Class of 2013 and is the daughter of Kim -- who was also her coach at Everton High School -- and Monte Gladden. Denney was a member of the Missouri Sports Writers and Broadcasters Association's Class 1 All-State first team, a three-year All-Mark Twain Conference first team member and a one-time second team selection.

She was a first-team All-District selection twice and second team once, a member of the All-Scoreboard Team, KY3 All-#gettinbuckets Team, a four-time Everton Invitational All-Tournament Team member and all-time leading scorer at Everton with 1,717 career points. She had five 30-point games and her career high for a single game was 48 points against Bradleyville.

She averaged 24.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game and was an All-Mark Twain Conference first team selection in Volleyball twice, MVP her senior season and a Sectional Qualifier in the triple jump for Everton's track and field team three times.

"Linsey is one of the most decorated and accomplished players we have had sign with us in my tenure here," Ketterman said. "She is an outstanding player who has the ability to score in a variety of ways.

"She can play off the dribble, shoot the mid-range and 3-point shot, and finishes well at the rim. I feel very fortunate to have someone of her talents joining our squad."

Emily Allen is a 5-10 forward, from Miller, Mo. She will graduate with the Class of 2013 from Miller High School and is the daughter of Rex and Julie Allen.

She was a first-team All-Spring River Valley Conference selection, as well as first team All-District. She was a member of two different All-Tournament teams and averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game at Miller.

She is a member of National Honor Society, FFA, FCA, Student Council and is the Miller High School Senior Class President.

"Emily is an outstanding student-athlete and should compete for playing time immediately," Ketterman said. She is an aggressive and high-energy player on both ends of the floor.

"She has the ability to score from the perimeter as well as around the rim. I think she will fit into our style of play perfectly.

"In addition to her basketball and athletic skills, Emily is a natural leader and a 'take-charge' kind of person. I am really pleased to have her join us next year."
